Do you know if there is some formula or trick that helps with the back shape of the neck?

    Hi Rick,
Im making my own electric guitar and have a question for you. Do you know if there is some formula or trick that helps with the back shape of the neck?

Or do you know about some link or site which develope this point? Can you help with this? I have tried with a circular shape but it feels very bad!
    thank you Rick,

Rick Andrews Answers Your Question Below.

    Hi Luciano,
Well the profile of the back of the neck is really a matter of personal preference. In general the neck is not carved round but more like an elipse shape, a curve that gets flatter as it gets towrad the center. Once you build your guitar you can string it up before putting on the finish.

Carve a little off the back side of the neck and play it a little, then carve some more, and play some more, etc. You will feel the places that your personal touch tells you is too thick and you can shave a little more until it feels right for your own touch. When you have what you want, then take it apart and put on the finish. That way you have matched your own profile preference. These are the things that make a custom handmade guitar so much better.

This will make you play better than a store bought guitar because your hands can work better with what fits right. Makes a huge difference.

Remember Dwanr Eddie? Famous guitarist of years ago. He had many top hit tunes like "Rebel Rouser" and many more. He played two of my custom guitars I built last year. The first one he said was way too stocky for his touch. I handed him the other one and said "here try this one." He played it and it made a huge difference to him. It was carved with a much thinner profile or flatter, not so thick and that one was a perfect fit for him.

I explained to Dwane that I would custom carve the profile to fit my customers. You would be surprised as to how different people are on those things. It is a custom personal thing. This suggestion will help you find what fits you and it will make a huge difference in your playing ability.
    Rick Andrews, Andrews Guitar

Hello, this is Rick Andrews owner of Andrews Guitar and a long time member of EvO:R. This section has been put together to help you with your guitar related questions. I did not agree to do this so I could simply plug my guitars, I did this so you could finally have answers to many of those burning questions you may have had about your guitar.
We will discuss anything related to the guitar, so if you have a question about guitar construction, neck action, string height, pickups, simply send it to me and I'll answer your question on this open forum. Questions or comments email: askrick@evor.com

OK, I do get a small plug!
