Are You Always Out of Time?
By Robin Skeen
It is really stressful and aggravating when you have so much to do and run out of time before you get even half of the stuff done. It's a trap a lot of people fall into of trying to take on too many projects at one time. It is a struggle just to get through the day after awhile. Does it seem you are always out of time? Managing your personal time is something a lot of people have trouble with as reality sets in that there really are only 24 hours in a day. It is probably time to learn a few time management tips. Here are some suggestions you can hopefully use to help ease some of the stress and find enough hours in the day.
Focus on the moment. If you get bogged down with several chores at a time, it will drain your energy and cause stress. If at all possible, complete one task before going on to the next. You will get things done quicker by staying focused. It is a matter of prioritizing.
Make a list before you get started. List all of your tasks without thinking about the importance of each one the first time you write them down. Now take a good look. Do you see things on that list that are not a priority? Did you leave things off of the list that you thought were important? If you focus on this list and try to get through it one item at a time, you will find your priorities tend to line up in the correct order. Do this as you start your day. It will save you time and a lot of energy. You will see where you are wasting time and why you run out of time. Once you discover the time wasters, eliminate them from your to-do list.
Learn to ask for help. You have family and friends who can help you with your responsibilities. Again, if you try to do everything yourself, you take time and energy from the important things. If your children always fight about whose turn it is to load the dishwasher, create a chore chart. Ask your spouse to help. You really do not have to do it all alone.
Make a plan. If you are constantly losing track of time and running out of time, you have failed to plan. A little notebook to carry with you could be helpful. Get a calendar and plan more than a day or two in advance. If you already know what you are doing several weeks down the road, planning gets a lot easier. Using the calendar makes creating that daily to-do list a cinch! Keeping track of where you are supposed to be, when the kids have sports practice, when you and the spouse plan your date night will keep the stress at a minimum and keep you from running out of time.
Start using these suggestions right away and continue to make time management your top priority. Your physical and mental health will thank you and your family will have more of you.
