CD Cover Design Myths Debunked
by- "Kenny Love" firstname.lastname@example.org
As you may be aware, I have written several articles on the
importance of the visual presentation of CD covers to
effectively and successfully promote and sell your music in
advance long before a single note is heard by listeners from
Kenny Love, Editor
I have, repeatedly, found for years that most musicians do
not seem to feel that aspects, other than their production,
are paramount to achieving notoriety, popularity and, most
importantly, sales success for themselves and their
respective music careers.
Other facets, such as CD covers and certain elements of
marketing, not only take a backseat in most musicians'
careers, but if their music careers were automobiles, these
elements would be placed in their trunks with a sign
attached that read, "Open only in extreme highway
I have often said that, while fans only see the "final big
result" (success and fame), it has alternatively taken a
number of smaller processes working cohesively in order to
make the final big result successfully happen.
However, after reviewing Guest Author Jane Denny's first
part of her two-part article ("CD Cover Design Myths
Debunked") in today's B# Newsletter, you will realize that
my articles have hardly scratched the proverbial surface on
the importance of CD covers' visual impact.
Note: In addition to being a designer, Ms. Denny is also a
musician and recording artist.
After reviewing Ms. Denny's treatise on the intricate
mechanics of CD cover design, you will assuredly come
away with a healthy respect for the CD cover's design
process while saving yourself from experiencing some real
nightmares with cover design that occur far too often and
can significantly delay your release, or worse, have a great
impact on your music's ability to sell.
At the least, if you are releasing a new recording, you will
likely give stronger consideration to your cover's design
aspects. And, if you have already released a project that
is not selling as well as expected, you may find yourself
considering a new design entirely.
Additionally, Ms. Denny is the Art Director for The Mad
Hand Arts, Graphics and Design based in New York. Her
clients include the highly popular music industry directory,
"The Indie Bible," as well as numerous recording artists.
