The last 3 months of 2014 had to be the most esoteric months for music reviews.
I only reviewed about 15 of the more then 50 submission simply because the albums
were not worth listening to.
In the Studio:
The last CD I recieved before the cut of was "Ready For Love" by Meghan Shanley.
After turning down reviews for dozens of artist because the music was just hopeless
I was hoping for a quality release. Sometimes you get what you wish for. This CD was nothing short of amazing.
A couple years ago I recieved a CD from a management company. I won't name the artist or the manangement
because they are still upset with me. The artist (an up and coming female Pop artist) had a CD out that centered
around the life cycle of a relationship. The chance meeting, the first date, first kiss, romance, lies, cheating
and ultimate break up. Then the CD concluded with songs dealing with the recovery and rebound. This offering did little to appeal
to me and my final comment was - if I was in a restraunt on a first date and all the girl could do was
talk about her past love life my ending comment would be "check please" and that was my final comment about that CD.
The reason I bring this up was after reading the CD title "Ready for Love" I thought I was going to have to endure another relationship
life cycle album. Fortunatley this was not the case.
Meghan Shanley has a voice that can conquer the blues, gospel, soul, R&B and Pop without missing a beat.
She has the soulful blues of Bonnie Ratt (one of her heros) without the gravel in her voice. Listen to "Better Left Unsaid"
to hear a great example of that Bonnie Ratt soul. The Pop/Rock tune "Mysterious" barrows and then augments the opening riff
from "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes. This song is pop music magic and is destined to be a hit song should Meghans management
find a way to get her into mainstream radio rotation.
Shanley’s classic influences—including Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Wonder, Micheal Jackson and Aretha Franklin
and many of these influences are heard in "Ready for Love."
With her genuine warmth and dynamic stage presence, Meghan blends beloved standards with a delightful
taste of pop, jazz, blues and soul to deliver a compelling performance every time she steps to the microphone.
Meghan also shares unique original tunes that harken back to a classic time when vocals were not edited in Pro-Tool.
Winner of the Miss Virginia title, Meghan discovered an insatiable appetite
for meeting fans and making new friends during a life on the road that saw her traveling over 3,000
miles a month in the wake of her win. With a deep love of music, Meghan discovered that she loved
touring as well and began to focus on the pursuit of a career in music. She followed her passion from
her home state of Virginia and headed to Nashville.

With so many styles and influences to draw from you would expect an album to be unfocused as Meghan attempts to pay tribute to
so many great artists. The CD does cover a lot of stylistic real estate without getting too distracted. The CD bounces from Pop to rock to blues to soul
and funk with the added attraction of a few ballads. With that said, the CD remained very focused. I expect to see this CD as one of the top Indie releases
reviewed by EvOR for 2014.
