(RONAN, MONTANA) Hellgate which is Joel Floyd West (Guitar, Vocals), Scott Daniels (Bass), Jordan Sean (Drums) just released his second release to date entitled “Hellgate” EP. Release date: 2014.

The dark inspirations that find their way into the songwriting ensure that Hellgate will turn heads in gothic rock, metal and industrial communities worldwide. Music sounds like: Crowbar, Agalloch, Satyricon, and Acid Bath. On the other side of the sonic spectrum I can hear: Rage Against The Machine, Dope, In Flames, Stone Sour and Adema.

As you would expect is a carefully crafted 8 track musical journey through the forbidden forest that is the members of Hellgate’s psyche. I get the impression West is the musical mastermind behind all this. CD showcases Goth Metal-Rock artistics at its best. The end result creates a foundation for memorable, clairvoyant group of songs. There are clear-defined messages sure to have a positive impact on many listeners.

One of the things I really like about this project is despite the dark rock overtones it manage keep the structure relatively pure via crypt keeper mantra. Lyrics portray real life thoughts and frustration I can relate to. You can also hear influences from November’s Doom, Anathema and Bathpry just to name a few. Personally I see Hellgate as a musical hybrid between Rob Zombie and System of a Down. What's more vocals from West possess an inviting timber that will be sure to attract many. West has a strong yet striking charismatic visual as well.

The first few tracks "Death of Faith”, “Dead Ones” and “Fade” set the preliminary mood well. "Laceration” deserves an honorable mention as well and "Dear Me” reminds me of Poisonback. “A Doll’s House” had me rolling. All tracks really bring out the dazzling plying abilities of this composer to light.

    Song Samples:
      /  Death of Faith   /  Downlaod   /  Dead Ones   /  Fade   /  Laceration   /  Dear Me   /  A Doll's House   /  Laceration (radio)   /  Fade (radio)
    Conclussion
As much as I love these guys they need to somehow modernize their sound a tad. This can be done without compromising the hard rock musical foundation. Overall, this latest release from Hellgate pulls out all the stops and will bring nothing but intriguing melancholy darkness for your musical status quos. The “Hellgate” EP has 8 Tracks, 2 of them Radio edit version so all of this is a good band for the buck, and you can check it out live via the provided hyperlink above. Hellgate EP is filled with much in the way of integrity, passion, amazing vocal work, solid guitar grinding and a top writing style and lyrics. All this and more makes this 3 piece featuring West a wild ride and one hot commodity and a force to be reckoned – beyond Montana.
