Valentine and Other Stories
by
Frostbite (Chris Compton)
Reviewed by: Rory Richardson

This is Georgia based Frostbite’s (Chris Compton) latest effort entitled “Valentine and Other Stories” released in 2011 and certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one artist that brings to the table effective songwriting with dark, high-energy rock delivery.
The opening track "
But for the Beating” sets the stage rather well for this CD. It was a theatrical
intro piece which bounced along well
and had me focused for what lied ahead. All in all the whole CD is wonderfully simple
yet very complex with music that is dark, foreboding yet melodic.
The music reminds me a little of Rob Zombie, NIN, Ministry and even Marylyn Manson and Black Sabbath. There are some powerful grooves on this CD which gives this artist a modern day Goth Metal feel. Compton is a genius and his vocal presence works well track for track. Favorite tracks: My Darkest Dream, Venus in Furs, and the cover song The Metro (Berlin)

Conclusion:
My only criticism with this release: the overall sound quality. It sounds like it was recorded live either at the studio or during a soundcheck. Compton doesn’t have the greatest voice in the world either- but he makes up for it in other areas. But maybe that’s what he was shooting for in capturing lighting in a bottle. This is hard to do is a studio setting.
