As a solo artist, Pizzulo has released 12 internatiional albums of original material. His Internet chart success includes
well over a dozen #1 hits, along with several other Top 10 singles on Betarecords.com, Pittradio.com and Radioindy.com.
A former season 6 American Idol contestant, Drew has given hundreds of live performances of both original and cover material
in the USA and international cruise lines. Since Pizzulo does not play an instrument, he chose to work with talented
professional studio musicians Anderson Barbosa, Rick Barclay, Ed Kamenitzer & Donnie Klang in creating background
arrangements for his original solo work.
This is the second CD I have reviewed from Drew Pizzulo. Pizzulo has 12 CD's available for sale at CD Baby.
He has enough CD's to open a music kiosk in a major shopping mall. Independent artist's rearly have the staying
power (or material) to have 12 CD's to his/her credit. I can only name a few major artist's with more.
Drew's staying power alone says much about his devotion to his craft and the love he gets from devoted fans
through the years.
Drew's bio says he was American born but he still has a very distinct accent. This only adds to the emotion when
Drew sings one of his many love stricken ballods. His reverb drenched vocals, infectious smile and steamy Italian accent
make him the perfect object of desire for many dreamy eye females.
Compared to such ballodiers as Barry Manilow, Rob Thomas, John Denver and John Mayer. I don't agree with the comparison
when I listen to Drew. He has his own unique style and sound. I would compare him favoribly to the likes of
romantic International vocalist Julio Iglesias.
Pizzulo is truely one of a kind.
Another good comparison would be to tune on Uni-Vision ( broadcasting spanish language programs) at
night when they have a variety show on. Wait for the new up and coming heart throb vocalist to be introduced.
You will find this to be a very close comparion to what you can expect from a Drew Pizzulo release.
Pizzulo is listed under the genres - Pop/Rock, Easy Listening, Adult Contemporary and Christian on CD Baby
and Gospel and Pop at i-Tunes. This should give you an instant idea of what to expect when you listen
to Drew's music.
This CD was a collection of the many greatest hits from Drews vast collection of releases.
As I was listening to the music I started hearing a number of familiar songs. As it turns out, Disography has
14 total songs, 7 of which are from the CD "Once Upon A Song " which I reviewed late last year.
Of the seven songs not on "Once Upon A Song " my favorite tune was
Every Word I Say. Needless to say, it's
another tender love song but this is what you expect and get from Drew Pizzulo.
This is a Best of CD so pacing may not be a big consideration as the artist has already admitted that these are
his best works. Even with this in mind the CD flows from one song to the next as if you were reading a book.
You turn the page and the story continues to unfold. This CD should be listened to as a whole work of art.
Weaving music from one song to the next is an important feature when making an album. Having the right songs back to back to back
help keep the listening audience more focused on the overall project. The art of pacing has started to become a lost art as music
is listened to on small hand held devices. In many cases the playback is set to random or shuffle play. As a result chance creates
pacing, not the studio.
/* Am I?
/ Dancing Alone
/There was a Time
/* Can't Stop
/* I Need Love
/Nothing More to Say
/* Left Out
/ Music Is Christmas
/* A Moment Can Change Everything
/A Love Song
/* She's My Girl
/Every Word I Say
In the Studio:
Since this was a compilation CD I won't review the studio because songs may have been recorded in different
studio's and by different engineers. Overall each song stands on it's own as well recorded material sung by
a once in a lifetime vocalist.
As I said on my last review of Drew Pizzulo, I wish the engineers would give up on drenching his voice in reverb.
It takes away from the vocal performance and causes listener fatique. I challenge the studio engineer to go back to the
original studio masters and remix one of Drew's songs. This time with 80% of the reverb removed and listen to how this one
detail can open up the sound stage and create an amazing listener experience.
Drew's voice is good enough to stand on it's own without all the smaltzy effects.
Drew works his vocal magic with passion and intensity. He sounds comfortable with his sound and
has enough experience making records to settled into a sound all his own.
If you love a good ballod and a vocalist to deliver a perfect performance Drew Pizzulo is the answer.
My only issue was the studio used too much reverb
for the vocals. I would love to hear a more stripped down version of a couple songs for comparision.
I suspect the results would be amazing. Maybe even grounds for yet another CD...Drew Pizzulo Remastered .
This CD rates 8.5 stars out of 10.
