    CD title - Aqua Gardens
    by Anderson
    Review by Charles Harrelson

Anderson is a songwriting duo which features Joy Burnworth and Howie Anderson. At first listen I was taken back to vocalist Pattie Santos from the 60's band It's a Beautiful Day. Although It's a Beautiful Day was one of the earliest and most important San Francisco bands to emerge from 1967's social phenomenon Summer of Love, the band never quite achieved the success of contemporaries such as Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and Santana, with whom they had connections. The band created a unique blend of rock, jazz, folk, classical and world beat styles during the initial seven years it was officially together.

Joy's voice was familiar to that of Pattie Santos as both singers had a wide range and enough control to venture into the fast lane at any time. Joy has been heard on a recent Eddie Money recording as well as recordings by Mitch Forman, Larry Bagby as well as music for the movie Secret. Guitarist Howie Anderson might be best remembered for his contributions to the 60's pop band The Strawberry Alarm Clock with their 1967 hit song Incense of Pepperment. As a guitar player myself I often listen to new material and think about what I would do had I been in the studio. On every instance where I thought a mandolin here, a distorted guitar there or maybe a banjo for articulation Howie was in lock step. Had I been the engineer on this project I wouldn't have had anything to offer except support. This is truly a world class duo at the top of their game.

The music on the Aqua Gardens CD has deep roots in the late 60's pop/rock genre with lyrical content tailored more towards the middle aged professional then a tie died 60's hippie. I would consider labeling the style as adult contemporary with some of the greatest pop/rock vocal harmonies since the Beach Boys.

The EP follows a rule I have suggested to indie artist's for years. Put your best 3 songs first! Many A&R folks never get past the third song when they screen music so if your best songs are track 4 and 5 they may never get heard. Although all 6 songs were great offerings the first three are the class of the field.

With every CD or EP I listen for one song to stand out above all the rest. I ask myself, "is there a hit song inside." The kind of song which could bring thousands of concert goers to their collective feet when the first few notes are played. The title song, Aqua Gardens and Full of Empty could both be in this category. They have all the makings of a classic hit. Mature lyrics coupled with a vibrant guitar and outstanding harmonies will have you singing these songs over and over again.

This six song E.P. is world class in every way. From the professional CD package to a near flawless recording. This CD is a must have for any up and coming recording engineer to study. The recording was nothing short of polished in every detail.

This was a great listening experience from a veteran group of musicians who worked very well together. This E.P. gets nine stars out of ten.
