Yes CD's on EvO:R
Yes is an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968 and generally regarded as one of the archetypal bands of the genre.
Despite a great many lineup changes, occasional splits within the group and the ever-changing trends in popular music, the band has
continued on for over forty years and still retains a large following.
The band's music blends symphonic and other 'classical' structures with their own brand of rock music, which is marked by sharp dynamic contrasts,
extended song lengths, abstract lyrics, and a general showcasing of instrumental prowess. Although the band's sole consistent member has been bass
player Chris Squire (noted for his highly melodic and discursive playing as well as his early use of electronic effects), Yes is also generally
noted for the distinctive high-register vocals of lead singer Jon Anderson and the eclectic musical stylings of a succession of guitarists
(Peter Banks, Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin, Billy Sherwood), keyboard players (Tony Kaye, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Geoff Downes, Igor Khoroshev)
and drummers (Bill Bruford and Alan White). Several band members became celebrated musicians and/or bandleaders in their own right, and a 1980
lineup of the band was briefly fronted by future production star Trevor Horn.
Long-term band members Squire, Howe and White have most recently been touring (on the In The Present Tour of late 2008 and early 2009) with a
Yes lineup featuring vocalist Benoît David and keyboardist Oliver Wakeman.

Close To The Edge CD
by Yes
Our Price: $9.09
Usually ships in 1-2 days
One of the high-water marks of progressive rock (and thus of 1970s rock in general), CLOSE TO THE EDGE found British prog
godfathers Yes firing on all cylinders. Throughout their history, they've undergone numerous lineup changes, but this album featured the "classic" formation responsible for their absolute finest achievements. Here Rick Wakeman is at his Moog-goes-Baroque best behind the keyboards, Steve Howe sounds like a blues guitarist from Mars, Chris Squire delivers confoundingly contrapuntal bass lines, and Bill Bruford seemingly solves complex mathematical equations from his drum stool. The lion's share of the album is occupied by the title track, a complex piece that moves through numerous modes and moods. In latter decades, the extended song-suite has been denigrated as indicative of the worst rock pretensions, but, on CLOSE TO THE EDGE, it was a fascinating new concept, and Yes made it work more convincingly than anyone else before or since.
2003 remastered, reissue of 1972 album with redesigned booklet (digipak/slipcase), restored LP art, archival photos and new liner notes. Includes 4 bonus tracks 'America' (single version), 'Total Mass Retain' (single version), 'And You And I' (alternate version) & 'Siberia' (studio run-through of 'Siberian Khatru'). Elektra.

Fragile CD

Our Price: $14.59

This marked the period when Yes left the planet and took up residence on one of artist Roger
Dean's far-off lands. The musical transition is apparent with longer instrumental passages
taking over from the three-minute song format. Lengthy pieces open and
close the album, and both songs have become Yes chestnuts. "Heart Of The Sunrise" and "Roundabout"
are strong tracks musically, with the latter winning out as being more accessible. Without
detracting from Anderson, Howe, Bruford and Wakeman, Chris Squire's bass playing is superlative throughout.

90125 CD
by Yes
Our Price: $6.39
Usually ships in 1-2 days
When Jon Anderson rejoined Yes after DRAMA, he was inserting himself into an unusual situation. Keyboardist Geoff Downes and
longtime guitarist Steve Howe had left to form Asia with prog rock vets John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music etc.) and Carl Palmer (ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White brought original Yes keysman Tony Kaye back and recruited vibrant young Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Trevor Rabin. The quartet had already begun writing and recording, but Anderson was able to insert himself into the proceedings with such ease that the new combination sounds completely natural on 90125.
Mostly, the band was concerned with trimming the musical fat to keep pace with the onslaught of the 1980s. Thus, tracks like "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "City of Love" are full of samples, splices and almost funky beats and riffs. The unusual time changes and complex riffs of tunes like "Changes" and "Cinema" leave little doubt that this is still a Yes album, but the band succeeds in giving their sound a contemporary overhaul on 90125.
Includes 6 bonus tracks.

Yes Album CD
by Yes
Our Price: $6.09
Usually ships in 1-2 days
With THE YES ALBUM, Yes began an important new chapter in its career and defined much of what the next decade would bring.
They had left behind not only their original guitarist, Peter Banks, but also the covers of 1960s tunes by the likes of the Byrds and the Beatles. The arrival of the more hard-edged Steve Howe signaled the group's ascent into full-blown progressive-rock mode, a style whose parameters Yes helped craft with this recording. Though Rick Wakeman and his classical-influenced arsenal of keyboards had not yet come aboard, Tony Kaye's roiling Hammond organ and Chris Squire's busy bass lines perfectly interacted with Howe's idiosyncratic playing to create a uniquely fugue-like sound, as Bill Bruford's polyrhythms and Jon Anderson's angelic voice simultaneously kept things on a more abstract and ethereal plane than almost anything that had been labeled "rock" up to that point. "Starship Trooper" and "Yours Is No Disgrace" would become hallmarks of prog rock and launch a thousand pale imitations by third-string art-rockers for decades to come.
2003 remastered reissue of 1971 album includes three bonus tracks, 'Your Move' (Single Version), 'Starship Trooper - Life Seeker' (Single Version), & 'Clap' (Studio Version). Elektra/Rhino.
