Where The Wild Things Are CD
by Steve Vai
Our Price: $11.19 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Taken from a two hour and 40 minute sold out show recorded at The State theatre in Minneapolis, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is yet
another live showcase of meticulously mapped Steve Vai compositions. Much of the material is new, and tested out
in front of an unfamiliar but eager audience, with Vai exercising his chops to the limits.
It's a chance for him to bust out every trick in the book: blazing through ridiculously difficult scales, double
hand-tapping extravaganzas (where he plays the guitar like a piano), and sick string bends and whammy bombs to the
point where his custom Jem neck should be left, imaginably, in the same shape as the rubbery guitar on the cover of FLEXABLE.
The listening experience is more geared towards frequent guitar clinic attendees than someone seeking background music for
a day drive. It's the kind of stuff that deserves full concentration, and while most will furrow their brows while focusing
on the guitar pyrotechnics, the rest of the instrumentalists are tightly locked and highly ambitious in their own right.
Touring for the first time as a collective, violinists/keyboardists Ann Marie Calhoun and Alex Depoe join Vai, along with
bassist Bryan Beller, drummer Jeremy Colson and guitarist/sitarist Dave Weiner. The virtuostic tendencies run high, the
musicianship is incredible, and as a whole, the group sounds more like one of Frank Zappa's stage bands than, say,
David Lee Roth's.
Recording information: The State Theatre, Minneapolis, MN (09/19/2007).

Alive In An Ultra World CD
by Steve Vai
Our Price: $16.09
Usually ships in 1-2 days
"Whispering A Prayer" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Steve Vai is nothing if not a highly ambitious guitar virtuoso. ALIVE IN AN ULTRA WORLD is a unique live album in that it is wholly
composed of special songs written specifically for (and dedicated to) 15 nations along THE ULTRA ZONE 2000 tour trail. Each song e
ither employs traditional music elements of the subject country or pays homage to them through the lyrics. It is interesting to
note that many of these songs came together during soundchecks in as little as 15 minutes.
As Vai is well-versed in an eclectic
range of music styles, the songs on this two-disc set are stylistically diverse. The tracks with vocals reflect the flavor of
traditional folk anthems, and the instrumentals are rife with various scales, customary instrumentation, and of course, Vai's
inimitable guitar technique.
Personnel: Steve Vai (vocals, guitar); Dave Weiner (acoustic & electric guitars, sitar); Mike Keneally (spoken vocals, guitar, keyboards); Philip Bynoe (spoken vocals, bass); John Pustai (spoken vocals); Scott Palacios, Bob Carpenter (accordion); Eric Goldberg (keyboards); Mike Mangini, Chris Frazier (drums).
ALIVE IN AN ULTRA WORLD was composed and recorded at concerts in various countries, reflecting elements of the traditional music of the cultures in which they were recorded.

The one and only Satriani-taught and Zappa-tested virtuoso, Steve Vai, returns with his self-produced 1990 release,
PASSION AND WARFARE. The album was inspired by sequential dream patterns Vai experienced earlier in his life, and results in
one technically electrifying ride filled with vivid mysticism and groovy instrumental imagery. The album was recorded in his home studio, the Mothership, and released on Relativity/Epic Records. Vai says it best when he characterizes this album as "Jimi Hendrix meets Jesus Christ at a party that Ben Hur threw for Mel Blanc."
Recorded at The Mothership.
