Rush is a Canadian rock band originally formed in August 1968, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. The band and its membership went through a number of re-configurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving their current form when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first U.S. tour.

Since the release of the band's self-titled debut album in March 1974, Rush has become known for the instrumental skills of its members, complex compositions, and eclectic lyrical motifs drawing heavily on science fiction, fantasy, and libertarian philosophy, as well as addressing humanitarian, social, emotional, and environmental concerns.

Rush has won a number of Juno Awards, and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Over the course of their careers, the individual members of Rush have been acknowledged as being some of the most proficient players on their respective instruments, with each band member winning several awards in magazine readers' polls. As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. According to the RIAA, Rush's sales statistics also place them fourth behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold or platinum albums by a rock band. Rush also ranks 79th in U.S. album sales with 25 million units. Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, as of 2004 several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units.

      Presto CD
      by Rush
    Our Price: $$6.49
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
PRESTO was the first Rush album to be co-produced by the band and Rupert Hine (Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Howard Jones). Thus, it should come as no surprise that PRESTO is very melodic and one of Rush's most commercial efforts. But the playing is still top notch, and the group creates a very open and straightforward sound --due to cutting back on keyboards and synthesized sounds (which were prominent on the majority of their recordings from the '80s).

"Show Don't Tell" opens the album on a (lyrical) cautionary note, and contains slight elements of funk-rock throughout (the first time Rush had experimented with this genre on record). The melancholic "The Pass" deals with the controversial subject of teen suicide, while the rocker "Superconductor" encompasses the ups and downs of being a celebrity. Not all of the band's experiments work--"Scars" is the only point on the album where synth sounds take away from the song, while other tracks are a bit too "clean" sounding when compared to past Rush classics. Still, PRESTO showed that Rush was open to trying new ideas in a decade where rock bands were expected to stick to the basics.

      Working Men CD
      by Rush
    Our Price: $14.54
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
Over the last 40 years Canada's biggest rock band, Rush has been creating one platinum album after another. The trio, featuring members Geddy Lee (Lead Vocals, Bass), Alex Lifeson (Guitarist), Neil Peart (Drums) are renowned in their own right, but together have come to form one of the most succesfull rock bands of all time, ranked fourth in sales behind only T he Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith. Since the release of the band's self-titled album in March 1974, Rush has become well-known for the instrumental skills of its members, eclectic lyrics, and complex compositional style. After Rush's 8 year hiatus in 1997, the band reunited to create Snakes and Arrows in 2006, renewing interest around the world. Rush's latest offering Working Men, the live CD release, pulls selected live offerings from their vast collection.

      Moving Pictures CD
      by Rush
    Our Price: $7.75
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
MOVING PICTURES is the intersection between Rush's '70s art-rock style and their sequencer-laced '80s efforts. An incredible stylistic leap for the band, the songs here incorporate reggae, percolating synth and even a new wave-tinged early '80s pop sensibility. "Tom Sawyer," the ultimate alienated-teen saga, is the album's best known song. "Red Barchetta" picks up where 2112 left off with futuristic, sci fi-oriented lyrics. The instrumental "YYZ" is as far into straight-up progressive rock as the band had ever ventured. Things get socio-political on the ominous "Witch Hunt," and a Jamaican flavor enlivens "Vital Signs." The increased reliance on synthesizers and sequencers would later become irksome to old school Rush fans, but on MOVING PICTURES, electronics are tastefully applied to further the group's musical vision, making for what just might be their finest batch of songs.
Recorded at Le Studio, Quebec, Canada in October & November 1980.

      Hemispheres CD
      by Rush
    Our Price: $6.55
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
Rush began life as a power trio in the Led Zeppelin/heavy rock mode. Over the years the band refined their musical vision as they gained both instrumental and conceptual facility. 1978's HEMISPHERES marks their transition from heavy riff-mongers to full blown art-rockers. Lee, Lifeson and Peart employ a number of tricks from the prog-rock bag here; (very) extended songs, multi-part suites, long instrumental passages, rapidly shifting tempos and time signatures, complicated unison riffs and synthesizer orchestrations. It's to Rush's credit that these elements enhance their sound instead of obscuring it. In fact, "La Villa Strangiato" would become one of the band's best-loved '70s efforts and a long-standing concert favorite.
All tracks have been digitally remastered. Recorded at Rockfield Studios, Wales between June & July 1978.

      2112 CD
      by Rush
    Our Price: $7.45
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24 karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.

2112 is archetypal high-concept heavy/art-rock, ... featuring an interconnected suite of songs and a futuristic science fiction-inspired lyrical theme (courtesy of drummer/sole lyricist Neil Peart). When it came to '70s sci fi rock epics these guys were capable of giving Hawkwind and Jefferson Starship a run for their money. The first half of the album features "2112" proper, a series of interrelated tunes that paint a portrait of a 1984/Brave New World-style future, where music and emotion are outlawed. Ultimately, our hero discovers a guitar and uses it to fight the powers that be, all to the accompaniment of vaguely Led Zeppelin-derived heavy rock riffs and daunting time signatures. The final five tunes are unrelated to the concept piece but continue in a similar musical vein, though a little balladry is mixed in towards the end.
Recorded at Toronto Sound Studios, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

      Signals CD
      by Rush
    Our Price: $6.65
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
Making the transition from the heavy-rocking '70s to the synthesizer-driven '80s, the power trio Rush embraced the new technology with open arms. After the 1981 smash album MOVING PICTURES, Rush decided to lead their cult of loyal fans down a slightly different musical route while continuing to maintain their high level of expertise. The result, SIGNALS, was a very unique album for the group and ushered in an era that focused their sound toward keyboard-centered orchestrations and tight, stylized arrangements.

The driving opener "Subdivisions" is a powerful depiction of the sometimes bleak outlook of suburban life. The special effects of "Chemistry" and the shuffling "Digital Man" take on a futuristic slant befitting the group's new synthesizer-based sound. The most creative use of the technology comes with the mysterious "The Weapon," one of the group's darkest compositions. A more typical song is the up-beat "New World Man" which showcases the trio's strengths on top of a sequenced computer track. The grand finally comes with a very realistic description of the launch of NASA's space shuttle on the programmatic "Countdown."
Recorded at Le Studio, Quebec, Canada between April & July 1982
