Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da CD
by Rammstein
Our Price: $17.44
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album
LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch
of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement,
skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic,
cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter
Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings
of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than
it has been for about a decade, and there's no threat of the album becoming ponderous either as the economical tracklist and purposeful
songs wipe away the sins of their previous album, 2005's ROSENROT. The group's loyal fans have remained with them through the '00s and
have braved all the difficult but ultimately rewarding efforts that came with it. To them, LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA is the big payoff and
an instant classic. For the rest of the world, this is that once a decade, perfectly balanced Rammstein album that's immediately
accessible but wide and deep enough to explore for years to come.

The Incident CD
by Porcupine Tree
Our Price: $15.65 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Porcupine Tree, have found a way to incorporate both prog rock's '70s, with its 10-minute-plus suites and bombast,
and its more refined, rock heavy '80s, into their 2009 effort, THE INCIDENT. Set up similarly to Rush's 1978 classic, HEMISPHERES,
THE INCIDENT is comprised of a single long song -- the title track -- that features many different movements, followed by a handful of shorter
compositions to close the album. Unlike early proggers who favored meandering instrumental doodling over succinct songwriting, Porcupine
Tree always favor the importance of memorable songs over flashy solos, which certainly makes the group one of the top modern-day prog rock bands.
Personnel: Steven Wilson (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Richard Barbieri (keyboards, synthesizer); Colin Edwin (double bass); Gavin Harrison
(drums, percussion).

The Resistance CD
by Muse
Our Price: $15.65 CD/ $10.89 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption
that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen,
its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery from rock opera. It's also the first time that Muse has truly sounded like
Muse, as few bands since Queen have so readily explored the intersection of bombast and extravagance. THE RESISTANCE is most certainly
extravagant -- there are snatches of classical piano entwined throughout, not to mention bilingual lyrics, concert hall percussion,
coronet solos, and song titles like "Exogenesis: Symphony, Pt. 2 (Cross-Pollination)" -- but it's also quite beautiful, capable of
moving between prog rock choruses and excerpts from Chopin's "Nocturne in E Flat Major" within the same song. Presiding over the
mix is frontman Matthew Bellamy, a man who seemingly aspires to be both Brian May and Freddie Mercury. He plays guitar, pounds
the piano, and composes the album's orchestral parts, but his strongest asset is his voice, a sky-scraping tenor dripping with
so much emotion that it's almost lewd. He croons, whispers, annunciates, and belts with confidence, a combination that makes him
one of England's most dazzling singers in recent memory.
Since a virtual mountain of voices is better than a single voice
(remember: bigger is better), Bellamy also multi-tracks himself, creating towering stacks of harmonies during songs like "Resistance,"
"Undisclosed Desires," and the colossal "United States of Eurasia (+Collateral Damage)."

Aenima CD - Import
by Tool
Our Price: $11.55 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
On its second full-length album, this hard-rocking quartet delivers 15 tracks of unrelenting aggression and focused intensity. Rather
than overwhelm with huge sonic washes of guitar and booming drums, Tool employs a propulsive, snaky approach that makes use of undulating
rhythms and clipped, percussive guitar riffs. Maynard James Keenan's vocals follow suit, opting for a heavily processed slow burn
instead of the post-grunge bellow favored by so many hard-rock bands. Instead of flailing uncontrollably in all directions, the group's
raw, energetic sound is tightly directed for maximum impact.
On songs like "Stinkfist," Keenan rails against injustice while the band churns mercilessly behind him. There is very little humor or
light in Tool's worldview (except for song titles like "Hooker With A Penis"); these are songs of painstakingly articulated angst,
and they are delivered in an earnest, deadpan manner. These fierce rockers are dead set on making their point, and make it they do,
with all the bloodshed and carnage that entails.
AENIMA was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package. "Aenima" won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.

Benefit CD
by Jethro Tull
Our Price: $8.85 CD / 9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Tull's third album finds them pulling definitively away from their blues-rock beginnings and heading towards the folk-influenced prog-rock
that would become their trademark. It captures a brief, crucial moment in the band's life. They hadn't yet adopted the complex, medieval-oriented
approach of their most famous works, but they had progressed enough to record some of Ian Anderson's most unpretentious, personal and affecting
songs. Instead of courtly prog-rock or Cream-ish electric blues, BENEFIT is full of visceral, electrified folk-rock. The light, acoustic-flavored
"With You There to Help Me" and "Inside" are full of thoughtful passion. The harder-edged "To Cry You a Song" and "Teacher" are examples of
Tull's ever-present way with a hooky riff. For those distrustful of fancy time signatures and complex song suites, a strong case could be made
for BENEFIT as Tull's most satisfying effort.
Digitally remastered reissue. Includes four bonus tracks: the rarities 'Teacher (original UK mix) and 'Teacher (original U.S. mix)' , plus
'Witches Promise', & 'Just Trying To Be'.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

Absolution CD
by Muse
Our Price: $11.35 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Muse lead vocalist Matthew Bellamy's vocal timbre bears a distinct similarity to that of Thom Yorke, leading some to dismiss Muse as simply
a band of Radiohead-worshippers. With ABSOLUTION, however, the UK-based group proves that it's much more than the sum of its influences,
delivering a work that revels in the enormity of its ambition, the breadth of its sonic palette, and the intensity of its emotional
resonance. Employing a daring mix of classical-influenced piano and strings, metallic guitars, unabashedly strident house-style synths,
and the type of production bombast usually reserved for Queen or ELO, Muse often sounds like an otherworldly jam session between Rufus
Wainwright, Front Line Assembly, the Move, and Evanescence. Packed with both pop hooks and unusual instrumental textures at every turn,
ABSOLUTION invites listeners to expect the unexpected.
Rolling Stone (4/1/04, p.89) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[G]ive Muse, from the English town of Teignmouth, some credit for adopting Radiohead's
bombastic BENDS approach and adding prog-rock-style instrumental virtuosity."
Q (Magazine) (p.121) - "Muse's grandiose ideas and boundless energy are channelled into songs that rarely last longer than five minutes.
Progressive rock for the post-Nirvana generation."

In Search Of The Lost Chord CD
by Moody Blues
Our Price: $11.99 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
After helping lay the groundwork for concept albums and progressive rock with 1967's orchestra-enhanced suite DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED,
the Moodies retrenched for the follow-up. They abandoned the orchestra but kept their sound as rich as before by playing a multitude
of instruments themselves, including everything from sitar to cello to oboe. At the time, it was remarkable enough for these instruments
to appear on a rock record, much less to be played by the band itself. The string-laden conceptual pieces of DAYS were replaced by shorter,
more concise songs that leaned more toward Beatlesque pop and displayed a pronounced Eastern influence.
Graham Edge's short spoken-word pieces provide a properly arty framework for the Moodies' blend of swooping mellotron, haunting flute,
and rich, multi-tracked harmonies. The slightly Hollies-ish "Ride my Seesaw," one of the band's strongest rockers, is a highlight.
Flutist/vocalist Ray Thomas provides the quirky Britishness so essential to '60s UK pop-rock with his music-hall-on-acid number "Dr.
Livingstone I Presume." The soaring harmonies of "Legend of a Mind" work in praise of Timothy Leary and his "trips to astral planes.
" IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD is the most exotic, trippy album in the Moodies' catalog.

This is the second expanded edition of this 1968 paean to psychedelia to have appeared in just 28 months -- it was preceded by a
"Deluxe Edition" two-disc hybrid SACD/CD edition from Polydor's European division in the late winter of 2006; apparently, those
in charge of the label either didn't think the U.S. could support that high-priced package
