      Very Best Of Badfinger CD
      by Badfinger
    Our Price: $10.39
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
Recorded between 1970 & 1974. Originally released on Apple & Warner Brothers. Includes liner notes by Andy Davis.

Easily one of pop music's greatest would-be success stories and most well-known tragedies, Beatles proteges Badfinger wrote some of the definitive tunes of the power-pop era. There is considerably more to the story of Badfinger than the 18 tracks on this concise best-of would have it, yet as a primer on this most bittersweet of bands, it certainly does its job. Included here is the Paul McCartney-penned hit single "Come and Get It," the power-pop gem "No Matter What," the pensive "Day After Day," and "Without You," arguably the band's biggest hit, as it would prove to be a smash for both Harry Nilsson and, decades later, Mariah Carey. That such wonderful music didn't prevent the band members from ending up destitute and miserable only adds to the songs' emotional impact. THE VERY BEST is an excellent introduction to Badfinger, but once a taste has been had, a deeper investigation is essential.

Keep An Eye On The Sky CD
      by Big Star
    Our Price: $59.39
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
As the object of intense devotion for so many fans, it's fitting that Big Star receive a box set designed for the intensely devoted: four discs containing every song the band cut in the '70s, often present in slightly alternate mixes or versions in addition to the originals, a clutch of solo songs from both Chris Bell and Alex Chilton, as well as a handful of pre-Big Star cuts by Icewater and Rock City, all topped off with a live disc culled from a three-set stint at Memphis' Lafayette's Music Room in January of 1973, not long after Bell left the band. Excepting subsequent reunions in the '90s and 2000s, no corner of the band's career remains untouched on KEEP AN EYE ON THE SKY and rarities are abundant, with 55 of its 98 tracks previously unreleased. This is a staggering statistic but it's also misleading, for 20 of those cuts are from the live disc and the rest are either alternate mixes, alternate versions, or demos -- there are no unheard songs, aside from an excerpt of Rock City's "The Preacher." Of these, only a handful are markedly different either in their lyrics or attack, with all finding the songs and even arrangements essentially intact, even in their demo form. Consequently, KEEP AN EYE ON THE SKY contains fewer revelations than it initially appears, which isn't to say it lacks any: the earliest demos for BIG STAR 3rd are by and large lighter in tone than the album (although there's no way "Holocaust" ever could seem cheery), a testament to how much a song can change during the recording process.

In a way, all of Big Star's career is a testament to the recording process. They were a creature of the studio, not stage, having free rein at Ardent Studios, where they stayed up into the next morning tinkering at the same set of songs. This resulted in the crisp, sterling sound of #1 RECORD and the deliberately looser RADIO CITY, as well as the sliding, sprawling mess of 3rd, but it didn't result in outtakes -- it resulted in alternate mixes and instrumental scraps, the stuff that enthralls fetishists, sometimes justifiably so. Those are the listeners who will find KEEP AN EYE ON THE SKY most rewarding, but anybody who has loved the band will find something to cherish here, whether it's the crackerjack live show -- which provides roaring covers of the Flying Burrito Brothers' "Hot Burrito #2," T. Rex's "Baby Strange," and Todd Rundgren's "Slut" (revived 20 years later on their reunion concert), as well as a startlingly effective take on "The India Song" -- or merely the context of the set, which tells the story of America's greatest cult band this side of the Velvet Undergrou

      Raditude CD
      by Weezer
    Our Price: $13.59 CD
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
Words such as "goofy" and "geeky" have long been used to describe Weezer's music, but these qualities are only one aspect of the band's sound; beneath all the humorous pop culture references and snarky attitude, Rivers Cuomo touched upon a myriad of serious topics including existential angst, aging, and sexual mores. While at first listen RADITUDE seems to be one of the Weezer's silliest albums (song titles include "The Girl Hot Hot" and "In the Mall"), there is, as usual, more than meets the ear. Even on the paean to debauchery "Can't Stop Partying" (the lyrics of which were written by rapper Jermaine Dupri), there is a certain undercurrent of melancholy, suggesting that the song may be simultaneously a celebration and a cry for help. "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To," for all its teen-pop bounce and smirking descriptions of a burgeoning romance, is a surprisingly sweet, honest, and distinctly adult look at the natural arc of a relationship. Perhaps more then ever before, RADITUDE revealed that Weezer can be appreciated on several levels.

      Raspberries CD
      by Raspberries
    Our Price: $13.29
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
When it comes to power-pop, few records have had as towering an influence as the first Raspberries album. With the opening track, "Go All The Way," Eric Carmen and the boys set the blueprint for generations to follow: crunchy Who-volume guitar chords and pure rock attitude, matched with ear-candy melodies and Beach Boys-worthy harmony vocals. On other songs, the Raspberries explored the many moods of Beatles-worship, their knack for catchy arrangements and pure pop songwriting often matching that of the Liverpudlian lads themselves. Far from a Fab Four tribute record, however, THE RASPBERRIES has a tough edge that clearly reveals that, though the Ohio group may have spent its days absorbing British Invasion sides, it was operating at a time when Led Zeppelin, not Lulu, ruled the rock world.

      Side 3 CD
      by Raspberries
    Our Price: $9.89 CD
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
The final album featuring the Raspberries' classic line-up, SIDE 3 is characterized by a heavier, more straight-ahead rock sound than the power-pop legends' previous efforts. The Beatle-esque melodies and smooth harmony vocals are still there, but songs like the boogie-fueled "Hard to Get Over a Heartbreak" and "I'm A Rocker" have more to do with Moby Grape or T.Rex than with the Fab Four.

Like the band's first two LPs, SIDE 3 opens up with a classic, genre-defining single, in this case the muscular, soaring "Tonight."Uncut (p.126) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[On] SIDE 3, Cleveland's kings of power-pop had perfected their technique."

Illegal, Immoral And Fattening/Moving Targets CDs
      by Flo & Eddie
    Our Price: $12.09
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
This 21-track CD collects the entirety of Flo and Eddie's third and fourth albums, their final releases for Reprise Records in the 1970s and the last albums the duo would release as a full-time project; following these, Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan (perhaps best known for the work as the Turtles) would only occasionally dust off their sardonic Flo and Eddie personas. The duo's most commercially successful albums and critical high points, ILLEGAL, IMMORAL AND FATTENING and MOVING TARGETS mix goofy humor, hard rock, and glam posturing in a unique blend. This remastered disc features excellent sound.

      Live On Sunset Strip CD
      by Raspberries
    Our Price: $21.49 CD/DVD
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
Capturing the classic power-pop band's 2005 reunion with its original line-up, this excellent 13-track set is as clean and crisp as the suits the band so often wore. All the hits are here--including "Tonight," "I Wanna Be With You," and "Go All the Way"--and the band sounds energized and delighted to be performing together, with lead singer Eric Carmen crooning in a respectably strong voice throughout. The Raspberries always had the perfect name for a power-pop band, as they were deliciously sweet, but had just enough of a tart attack to avoid sugar shock. And as this set so aptly proves, the Raspberries remain in season.

This DVD marks the triumphant return after 30 years of the Raspberries' original line-up of Eric Carmen, Wally Bryson, Dave Smalley, and Jim Bonfanti, recording at Los Angeles' House of Blues during their sold-out 2005 reunion tour. The 2CD/DVD set includes the entire 21 song concert on 2 CDs plus 5 song DVD. Included are all of the band's classic radio hits and more.

      Sunshine Lies CD
      by Matthew Sweet
    Our Price: $12.05 CD / $9.99 MP3
    Usually ships in 1-2 days
After more than two decades as a maker of sparkling, jangly power pop, you might expect that Matthew Sweet would start heading in the direction of, say, latter-day Nick Lowe, slowing down the tempo and turning down the volume for a more "mature" effect. Instead, Sweet goes the other way, making SUNSHINE LIES one of his hardest-rocking efforts to date.

While his unerring tunefulness is always part of the equation, Sweet sounds like he's been listening to his share of Neil Young & Crazy Horse, judging from the crunch of the guitars (not to mention his distinctly Young-like vocals on "Meltdown"). On many other cuts, Sweet's voice seems to have taken on something of a Tom Petty tone as he's gotten older; this works out well, considering he shares with Petty a gift for all-American, hook-filled songcraft. Sure, there are a few songs here that hail back to the gentler, more jangly popster of old, but SUNSHINE LIES ultimately finds Sweet rediscovering his muse back in the garage and wringing loud, juicy joy from the process.
