One Stormy Night CD
by Mystic Moods Orchestra
Our Price: $15.59 CD / $9.90 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
The thundercracks and pelting rain heard in ONE STORMY NIGHT, the first and best of the Mystic Moods series, are truly awesome.
And the mostly original background music is just sprightly and unsentimental enough to keep from being overwhelmed by the superior forces
of nature. Given its alleged erotic content, however, the Johnny-comes-marching-home arrangement of the title track is quite funny. Come
to think of it, so are the freight train noises and the cut titled "Hot Bagel."
The idea of tailoring instrumental albums as an aphrodisiac is not new to pop music. In 1972, however, engineers Brad Miller and Leo
Kulka-the minds behind the highly successful Mystic Moods Orchestra-took the time-honored concept to the next technological level. In
collaboration with arranger Don Ralke, they combined state-of-the art nature recordings with modestly scored instrumental tracks,
mixing the sound so that the music accompanied the storms, streams, crickets, and ocean surf.

Yes, Please CD
by Fourplay
Our Price: $6.19 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
This is jazz lite, no doubt about it--the four storied musicians who make up Fourplay would be the first to tell you so. But YES, PLEASE is far from
the overripe, cloying tones employed by so many "pop jazz" artists. Instead, it's full of subtlety, emotive, carefully considered solo statements,
and tunes intended for more than coffee- commercial soundtrack music.
Though he contributes the least in terms of original compositions, veteran guitarist Larry Carlton offers some of the most soulful playing here.
His warm-but-precise tone is simultaneously organic and cerebral as he improvises over the alternately funky and balladic motifs of the tunes.
Keyboardist Bob James provides the same indefatigable blend of catchiness and taste that's made him so successful for decades. The rhythm section
of Harvey Mason and Nathan East, who've backed a thousand contemporary jazz artists, keep the rhythms visceral without losing any of the more intimate nuances.
YES, PLEASE was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

Born 2 Groove CD
by Euge Groove
Our Price: $11.29 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
After searching for a more inspired way to indulge his chart-topping contemporary jazz sound, saxophonist/composer/arranger
Euge Groove has created his most personal statement to date as an artist. On Born 2 Groove, the versatile saxophonist surrounds himself
with an array of masterful gospel musicians who speak a completely different musical language. The result is ten brand new tracks,
seven of which were recorded completely live. With special guest appearances by the great Jeffrey Osborne on "Baby If You Only Knew
(What I Could Do)" and former Temptations lead singer Ali "Ollie" Woodson on "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know," Groove should
also gain even more appreciation for his musical interpretations from his ever-increasing R&B fan base.
The song's themes range from
the gently playful and laid-back feeling heard on the opening track "A Summer's Night Dream" to the beautiful Italian inspired
imagery inherent in "Café del Soul" to the spiritual essence of "Religify." Groove flat out seduces you, moves you and grooves
you on this record. Several of his performances, including "Slow Jam,"
"I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know," "Movin' On," the title track, and "Mr. Groove" reveal him as an accomplished,
instinctive musician. His emotional solos and different chord voicings within a larger harmonic setting give him an edge
over several of his generation's contemporary jazz counterparts.
This CD is where the real players play. Fans of Euge Groove
will experience a premium new sound set in HD digital technology that is filled with his incomparable saxophone voices,
stirring gospel riffs and emotional, soulful vocals, all of which set a new standard for Groove's distinctive contemporary jazz sound. ~ Paula Edelstein

Confidential CD
by Peter White
Our Price: $7.59 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Guitarist Peter White follows up his 2001 release Glow with more solid melodic smooth jazz on Confidential.
Once again there is an amiable mix of quiet storm-ready ballads, up-tempo Latin numbers, and groove-oriented
soundscapes.
Joining White are such instrumental pop luminaries as trumpeter Chris Botti, keyboardist Brian Culbertson,
and percussionist Paulinho Da Costa. While there are no particular surprises here, fans of White's incomparable guitar playing
should find much to enjoy on this laid-back disc. ~ Matt Collar
Lenny Castro (percussion).
Producers include: Peter White, DC, Paul Brown, Matthew Hager, Brian Culbertson.

4 CD
by Fourplay
Our Price: $6.09 Cd / $9.90 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Lite jazz, smooth jazz, call it what you will. If the audiophile-oriented instrumental sounds of such artists as Bob James and Larry Carlton
are your cup of tea, then this supergroup will be right up your alley. Fourplay combines the talents
of James, Carlton
and studio vets Nathan East and Harvey Mason, and together they produce a sound that is more than the sum of its parts.
The accent here is on smooth, flowing R&B-inflected jazz (or is that jazz-inflected R&B?), as exemplified by the opening cut "Still The One,"
which features guest vocals by Heather Mason. Things soon take off in other directions though, as Fourplay works in a bit of funk here, a
little world music rhythm there, spicing up the proceedings nicely. For a little variety in between the instrumentals, there are a number of
guest vocalists, including El DeBarge and R&B guru Babyface himself.
Personnel: El DeBarge, Heather Mason, James DeBarge, Kevyn Lettau, Michele Pillar, Nathan East, Shanice, Babyface (vocals); Larry Carlton
(guitar); Bob James (keyboards); Harvey Mason, Sr. (drums).

It's On Tonight CD
by Brian Culbertson
Our Price: $11.99 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
With its seething, laid-back funk beats and steamy lyrics full of obvious references to romantic trysts, it doesn't get any
sexier than Brian Culbertson's IT'S ON TONIGHT. A number of prominent crossover jazz artist lend their talents here. For example, the
downtempo title track features a sensual R&B vocal from singer Will Downing. Later, saxophonist Boney James' mellifluous lines become
the focus of "The Way You Feel." On "Secret Affair," relative newcomer Chris Botti plays Miles Davis-influenced riffs over a spacious
one-chord vamp (and his use of a Harmon mute creates that smoky, late-night effect).
Kirk Whalum's silky tenor saxophone beautifully complements Patti Austin's soulful voice on "Love Will Never Let You Down," a seductive
ballad about love's resilience. Instrumental tracks such as "Sensuality" and "Touch Me" combine relaxing atmospherics with deep-pocketed
grooves. Through it all, Culbertson's smooth keys and horn lines (he plays both trumpet and trombone) shimmer and shine.
