The Beatles became one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music.
The Beatles have had more number one albums on the UK charts, and held down the top spot longer, than any other musical act.
According to RIAA certifications, they have sold more albums in the US than any other artist.
Clapton has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Yardbirds, of Cream, and as a solo performer.
Often viewed by critics and fans alike as one of the greatest guitarists of all time,
Clapton was ranked fourth in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and #53 on their
list of the Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
Dream Theater has become a successful progressive metal band. Although the band has had one successful hit,
they have remained relatively out of the mainstream. Dream Theater has sold over two million albums in the U.S.,
and over 8 million records worldwide. The band's tenth studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings, was released on June 23, 2009.
It entered the US Billboard 200 at #6 and Eurochart Hot 100 at #1, marking their highest entry on either chart.
The Grateful Dead was known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae,
country, jazz, psychedelia, and space rock—and for live performances of long musical improvisation. As of 2003, the remaining band members who
had been touring under the name "The Other Ones" changed their official group name to "The Dead". Deadheads continue to use that nickname to
refer to all versions of the band.
Rush has won a number of Juno Awards, and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Over the course of their careers, the individual
members of Rush have been acknowledged as
being some of the most proficient players on their respective instruments, with each band member winning several awards in magazine readers' polls.
Joe Satriani has been a driving force behind other musicians throughout his career, as a founder of the ever-changing touring trio,
G3, as well as performing in temporary positions with other musicians. Satriani worked with a range of guitarists from many musical
genres, including Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Eric Johnson, Larry LaLonde, Yngwie Malmsteen, Brian May, Patrick Rondat, Andy Timmons,
Paul Gilbert, Adrian Legg, and Robert Fripp through the annual G3 Jam Concerts.
Tool is known to have rigorous touring schedules in support of their albums, they have performed well on charts worldwide,
and have sold an estimated 9.25 million records in the US alone. Due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and relatively long and
complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock and art rock.
The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship and the band members'
insistence on privacy.
[Stevie Ray Vaughn]
Stevie Ray Vaughan (born Stephen Ray Vaughan; October 3, 1954 – August 27, 1990) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter.
He is often considered to be one of the most important electric guitarists in the history of rock music by other musicians and commentators.
Stevie Ray Vaughan discography In the 1980s, many assumed blues rock was left for dead, but Artist helped breath life back into it.
More than a straight-ahead bluesman, Texas-native Vaughan was influenced as much by Jimi Hendrix as he was by Otis Rush, and the
singer/songwriter/guitarist possessed jaw-dropping technical abilities and pure soul in equal amounts. With his trio Double Trouble
(later expanded to include keyboardist Reese Wynans), Vaughan helped spearhead something of a blues revival in the '80s.
Like his hero Hendrix, though, the flamboyant guitar hero died too soon, killed in a helicopter accident in 1990.
Apart from his work with Frank Zappa, Vai has also recorded and toured with numerous musical artists including Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake.
Vai has been a regular touring member of the G3 Concert Tour which began in 1996. In 1999 Vai started his own record label Favored Nations with the
intent to showcase, as Vai describes: "..
.artists that have attained the highest performance level on their chosen instruments."
The longest-running prog-rock group in the business, Artist flew on the strength of Jon Anderson's high, angelic voice and the group's
instrumental virtuosity. The band began in England, rising from the ashes of pop-psych outfits like Tomorrow, Bodast, and Mabel Greer's
Toyshop. Extending the technical facility of psychedelia and downplaying the trippiness, it helped forge the template for progressive
rock and reigned as its most popular practitioners in the '70s. Over the years, Artist has weathered personnel changes, lawsuits, and
changing public tastes while holding on to its original vision.
