For almost one year, guitar luther Rick Andrews answered your guitar repair questions. After recieving over 500 questions we put together the most popular questions and answers. Today, we are involving other great guitar builders and will continue to expand this area in the future. This section will no longer be interactive but you should find most of your guitar building and repair questions have already been answered in this section.

Special Note!
We are now stocking and selling electric guitar kits. By establishing a working relationship with two manufacturing plants we now offer many electric guitar kits. Some of the styles include the Telecaster, Stratocaster, Explorer, Flying V, Les Paul, PRS, and the Warlock. More will be added every couple months. If you are looking to find an inexpensive alternative to purchasing a new guitar you might want to consider a guitar kit from your friends at EvO:R.

  •  fretboard

I am refinishing a Gibson Les Paul with a set neck. The fretboard on the guitar is pretty worn, and I found a seller on ebay that sells incredible pearl inlay necks for as little as ten dollars. I was wondering if I could replace my fretboard with one of the inlayed ones. Also, the dimensions on those fretboards measure 1 3/4" nut width and 2 1/4" saddle width with a 16" radius. this does not fit my guitar. Is it possible to make this fretboard fit my guitar with a little sanding, or should I send in a blank one that fits my guitar bought off of stewart mcdonald to be inlayed?
    -Thank you very much,
    Ben.
  • Ricks Answer to - fretboard

The Les Paul radius fretboard should be 12" radius and I would not suggest doing a 16" radius. It can be done but you would ruin the future value of the LP. The neck and fretboard you have can be reworked and saved as original. The frets can be removed, then the fretboard re-radiused a bit then new fret slots and new frets. It would be good as new. I would highly reccomend keeping it in original format.
