I am refinishing a Gibson Les Paul with a set neck. The fretboard on the
guitar is pretty worn, and I found a seller on ebay that sells incredible
pearl inlay necks for as little as ten dollars. I was wondering if I could
replace my fretboard with one of the inlayed ones. Also, the dimensions on
those fretboards measure 1 3/4" nut width and 2 1/4" saddle width with a
16" radius. this does not fit my guitar. Is it possible to make this
fretboard fit my guitar with a little sanding, or should I send in a blank
one that fits my guitar bought off of stewart mcdonald to be inlayed?
Ricks Answer to - fretboard
-Thank you very much,
The Les Paul radius fretboard should be 12" radius and I would not suggest
doing a 16" radius. It can be done but you would ruin the future value of
the LP. The neck and fretboard you have can be reworked and saved as
original. The frets can be removed, then the fretboard re-radiused a bit
then new fret slots and new frets. It would be good as new. I would highly
reccomend keeping it in original format.
